ADELE'S WHOLE WHEAT ROLLS 
2 pkgs. yeast
1/4 c. water
1/2 c. shortening
2 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. light molasses
2 tbsp. brown sugar (1/2 c. brown sugar may be used and omit the molasses)
1/2 c. hot water
1/2 c. milk, scalded
1 c. whole wheat flour
1 egg
3 to 3 1/2 c. sifted flour

Soften yeast. Mix shortening, sugar, salt, molasses, water, and milk. Cool. Add whole wheat flour. Add yeast and egg. Beat well. Add white flour. Make a soft dough. Cover and let rest 10 minutes. Knead 8 minutes. Let rise until double. Punch down and let rest 10 minutes. Form into buns; let rise until double and bake in a moderate oven.
