GRANDMA'S BREAD PUDDING 
2 c. milk, scalded
3 c. soft bread crumbs (dry, but not stale)
2 tbsp. butter
1/2 tsp. vanilla
3 eggs
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 c. sugar

Grease small baking dish. Put in bread crumbs which have crusts removed and butter. Add scalded milk and let stand to cool slightly. Add salt, sugar and beaten eggs. Set in pan of hot water and bake at 350 degrees until firm, about 1 hour.

Can add dates, raisins or diced figs.
