CORN BREAD AND PEAS 
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk
1 c. cornmeal
1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
2 eggs
1 1/2 lbs. ground chuck, browned with onion
1/2 c. oil
1 onion, chopped
1 can blackeyed peas
1 (4 oz.) can green chilies
1 sm. can cream style corn
1 lb. grated Cheddar cheese

Add soda to buttermilk and set aside. Mix cornmeal, flour, salt, eggs, oil and buttermilk. Add peas, green chilies, corn, ground meat which you have browned with chopped onion and all the grated cheese, except a small amount for the top.

Pour into a large iron skillet or a 9x13 pan. Top with cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for 55 minutes. Serve with Picante Sauce. This dish, salad and dessert makes a very good meal.
