HOMEMADE PRETZELS
1 tsp. dry yeast
3/4 c. warm water (105 to 115 degrees)
1 1/2 tsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 3/4 c. all-purpose flour
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 tsp. Kosher salt

Dissolve yeast in warm water in a large bowl, let stand 5 minutes. Add sugar, 1/2 teaspoon salt and flour, stir until smooth.

Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth, about 3 minutes. Cut dough into 18 pieces; roll each piece on a lightly floured surface into a 9-inch rope. Shape each rope as desired, place on greased baking sheets.

Brush pretzels with egg, sprinkle with Kosher salt. Bake at 425 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown. Makes 1 1/2 dozen.

Rock or table salt may be used in place of Kosher salt. "This does not have to rise." Can be shaped into letters and numbers. For Scott, my 6 year old grandson, Juarez.
