BROWN SUGAR COFFEE CAKE 
2 c. lightly packed brown sugar
2 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 c. butter, softened
1 egg
1 tsp. freshly grated nutmeg
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. sour cream
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 c. chopped nuts
Optional: heavy whipped cream

Preheat oven. Mix brown sugar, flour and butter. Spread half of mixture in lightly greased 9 inch square pan. Add egg and nutmeg to remaining brown sugar mixture. Mix baking soda into sour cream and add to brown sugar-egg mixture, stirring well. Spread this batter over first mixture in the pan. Sprinkle cinnamon and nuts over the top. Bake 40 minutes at 350 degrees. Serve as coffee cake or top with whipped cream as dessert.
