BUTTERMILK SCONES | |
2 pkgs. yeast, softened in 1/4 c. warm water 1 qt. buttermilk 1 1/2 tsp. salt 2 tbsp. sugar 3 tsp. baking powder 2 beaten eggs 1/2 tsp. baking soda 8-9 c. flour Combine buttermilk, salt, sugar, baking powder, eggs, and soda in large bowl. Add softened yeast and 4 cups flour. Beat until smooth and well mixed. Add 4 more cups flour to make a soft dough. Allow to rise until double in bulk. Punch down and place in refrigerator overnight. Roll out small amount of dough using only enough flour to make scones easy to handle. Stretch and fry. |
