JOHN'S TATER TOT CASSEROLE
1 (2 lb.) pkg. tater tots
1 (8 oz.) pkg. mild cheddar shredded cheese
2 (10 oz. ea.) cans cream of mushroom soup (or 1 family sized can)
1 (12 oz.) pkg. Monterey Jack shredded cheese (or Mexican blend)
1 1/2 lb. ground chuck beef (hamburger)
1 (4 oz.) can sliced mushrooms, drained

Cook hamburger til done (just done); drain hamburger, rinse skillet and put back on burner.

Preheat oven to 450°F (or whatever the temp is on tater tot package).

Add hamburger meat back to pan once drained completely onto low to low-medium heat, add in cream of mushroom soups and mix/heat until combined well, after 3 or 4 minutes of combination add in sliced mushrooms and mild cheddar shredded cheese, stir until combined well.

Take 9x13 inch pan and pour skillet ingredients into pan, leveling out; add tater tots on top, it will take almost the whole bag, you'll be lucky to have 10 left... I spread mine out uniformly making rows of tots, one - two at a time. This is a great time to get the kids involved.

Once your completed layer of tots is on there your oven should be preheated to proper temperature. Put baking dish into oven for the time amount shown on tater tot package (15 to 18 minutes) then pull out of oven, and take the 12 oz package of Monterey Jack cheese or your favorite kind and completely layer the top of the casserole (another kid friendly task, just make sure and watch em around the pan, this may be for bigger kids).

Once layered, you can put back in oven, and if you wish turn off the oven. But leave casserole in the oven for about 5 to 7 minutes until melted very well.

That's it, let it rest for 5 to 10 minutes and you are ready for a one-dish meal that has just about everything in it... meat, potatoes (vegetables) and dairy, how good is that? Enjoy!!
