WALNUT BAR 
PASTRY BASE:

1/2 c. (1 stick) butter
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 1/3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 c. finely chopped walnuts

In a large bowl blend ingredients until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press into a well-buttered 13 x 9 baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.

While base bakes, make topping.

TOPPING:

2 eggs
1/4 c. brown sugar
3/4 c. dark corn syrup
3 tbsp. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
3/4 c. finely chopped walnuts

Beat eggs until foamy. Blend in the brown sugar, syrup, flour, salt, and vanilla until mixture is smooth. Pour over the partially baked base. Sprinkle with the 3/4 cup walnuts.

Continue baking at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes until top is lightly browned and bars are set. DO NOT over-bake. Cool in pan. Cut into bars to make 6 strips.

Makes 30 bars (one 13 x 9 pan).
