GERMAN - STYLE MEAT PATTIES 
1 c. crumbled stale white bread crumbs
1/4 c. liquid, milk or water
1 lb. ground beef
3/4 tsp. salt
1 sm. onion, minced
1 beaten egg
Flour to coat

Mix first 5 ingredients well. From into patties - 4 large or 6 small. Coat well with flour and brown in butter or Crisco. When brown on both sides, remove from skillet, pour off fat and add 1 to 2 cups of liquid to pan drippings. You can use beef broth, bouillon or just plain water. Bring to a boil, stirring bits of drippings until mixed. Return patties to pan, turn to simmer. Cover and cook 15 to 20 minutes longer.

I have been using this recipe to make these patties for many years. They are great and my family loves them. Sometimes I saute a chopped onion and, if I have them, chopped fresh mushrooms before I add the liquid, and then the patties to finish cooking. Very good!
