REAL CORNISH UPPER PENINSULA
PASTIES

3 1/2 c. sifted flour
3/4 c. lard
1/2 c. ground suet
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. cold water

FILLING:

6 raw potatoes, cut sm.
1 1/2 lbs. flank steak, cut into sm. pieces
3/4 c. chopped onion
3/4 c. ground suet
3/4 c. rutabaga
Salt substitute and pepper

Combine ingredients for the crust. Divide into 6 equal parts. Roll the dough into a circle the size of a medium pie plate, about 9 inches.

For Filling: You may use a food processor to cut everything. Combine filling ingredients. Place 1/6 of the filling on 1/2 of a rolled dough. Fold over and seal the edges well, pressing edges down firmly with the tines of a fork. Continue to complete all 6 pasties. Bake at 375 degrees for 15 minutes, then at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Serve hot with eggs for breakfast, ketchup for lunch, gravy for dinner. Freezes well.
