GERMAN CHOCOLATE CAKE | |
1 bar German chocolate 1/2 c. boiling water 1 c. butter 4 egg yolks 2 c. sugar 1 tsp. vanilla 2 1/2 c. flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking soda 1 c. buttermilk 4 egg whites (beaten stiff) Melt chocolate in boiling water. Cool. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add egg yolks and beat well. Add melted chocolate and vanilla. Mix dry ingredients. Add alternately with buttermilk to chocolate mixture; beat well. Fold in egg whites. Place in three greased and floured pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes. ICING: 1 c. evaporated milk 1 c. sugar 3 egg yolks 1/2 c. butter 1 tsp. vanilla Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened, about 12 minutes. Add 1 1/3 cups coconut and 1 cup chopped pecans. |
