2 c. water
2 c. raisins
2 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. allspice

Boil together all the above for 5 minutes. Let cool. Add 1 stick butter. Mix separately 2 teaspoons bread soda with 3 tablespoons hot water. Pour this in with other mixture. Add 2 1/2 cups flour, walnuts can be added. Bake in slow oven about 350 degrees.
