PUFFED RICE CANDY (1920) 
6 c. puffed rice
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vinegar
1/2 c. water
2 tbsp. molasses
1 tbsp. vanilla

Put puffed rice in a long pan and crisp at 350 degrees. Mix sugar, vinegar and water in large saucepan. Bring to a boil. Boil for approximately 5 minutes. Take pan off the stove. Add molasses and vanilla. Return to the stove. Bring to a boil. Boil until sauce becomes brittle in cold water. Add puffed rice. Stir good. Spread into a long pan. push down while still hot and cut into squares.

I haven't tried this recipe yet, but it looks a lot like the recipe my great grandma used to make. I've been trying to find something similar since she passed away in 1990. Thank you for posting, now I just need to find puffed rice cereal lol.

I'm not sure when you posted this because I'm not seeing a year but I stumbled upon this recipe and your comment when I went in search of "old fashioned puffed rice candy." I'm going through very old recipes my grandma saved and came across a hand written one from her aunt that must have been shared in the early 1960s. Instead of white sugar, it calls for brown sugar and it omits the molasses & vinegar. It also adds a "chunk of butter." It must have been good because according to the letter the recipe was included in, my grandma had requested the recipe from her. I'm guessing it was originally made on the family farm by my grandmother's grandmother.
