AFTERNOON TEA COOKIES 
2 tbsp. grated orange rind
1/2 c. water
1/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. almond flavoring
1 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt

Blend orange, water and 1/4 cup sugar. Boil 10-15 minutes to make syrup. Add water to make 1/4 cup syrup.

Cream butter, 1 cup sugar and flavoring until fluffy. Measure and blend flour, baking powder and salt. Stir syrup and dry ingredients into creamed mixture.

Roll in one inch balls. Place 2 inches apart on greased baking sheet. Flatten with a greased glass dipped in sugar. Bake 8 minutes at 375°F.
