THUMB PRINT COOKIES 
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. sugar
2 egg yolks
1/2 c. sugar
2 c. flour
2 tsp. vanilla
Crushed nuts - pecans or walnuts
Jam - any kind, I prefer raspberry but various kinds-colors are nice

Bake at 375 degrees. Cream shortening, butter, sugar and egg yolks. Beat. Add flour, salt and vanilla. Make a small ball and dip ball in egg whites then dip into nuts. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 5 minutes. Remove from oven and put thumb print in center of cookie. Fill hole with jam and place back in oven and continue baking for approximately 5 more minutes (time may vary depending on your oven). Remove, cool and enjoy.
