3/4 to 1 lb. butter 6 eggs, separated 1 1/4 lb. light brown sugar 3 c. plain flour 1 lb. English walnuts or pecans Juice of 1 lemon 2 tbsp. vanilla 2 boxes chopped dates 1/2 tsp. baking soda Cream butter and sugar. Beat egg yolks and add to butter and sugar. Cut up dates and nuts; put half of flour on them and add to other mixture. Add soda, lemon juice, and vanilla, and rest of flour. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Bake at 275 degrees for 2 hour and 10 minutes in tube pan. |
