ANNE'S IRISH SODA BREAD
2/3 c. raisins
3 tsp. sugar
3 tsp. shortening or butter
1 1/2 tsp. caraway seeds
1 c. buttermilk or sour milk (1 c. milk + 1 tbsp. vinegar)
2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt

Place all dry ingredients in bowl and stir until blended. Stir in the shortening and milk until a soft dough is formed. Add and mix in the raisins. If dough is too sticky, add small amount of flour to make a soft dough. Shape into 2 rounds. Brush tops with melted butter. Bake at 350 degrees about 1/2 hour or until tests done.
