BUTTERSCOTCH CHIP TORTE 
1 3/4 c. flour
2 tbsp. cocoa
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 lb. butter
1 c. sugar
2 beaten eggs
1 c. chopped dates
1 c. boiling water
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. nuts
6 oz. butterscotch chips

Sift flour, cocoa and salt together. Mix dates, water and soda. Cool. Cream butter and sugar. Add beaten eggs. Add dry ingredients alternating with date mixture. Add vanilla. Spread in a 9 x 13 pan. Sprinkle nuts and chips on top.

Bake 45 minutes at 350°F.

Serves 12. Can freeze. Must do ahead.
