SAVORY SWISS STEAK | |
2 lbs. round steak 1/4 c. flour 3 tbsp. shortening 1 (12 oz.) can vegetable juice cocktail 1/8 tsp. pepper 1/4 tsp. seasoning salt 1 clove garlic, minced 1/2 c. chopped onion 1 (3 oz.) can chopped mushrooms, drained Few drops hot pepper sauce (opt.) Cut steak into 6 equal serving pieces. Coat meat with flour, brown in melted shortening over medium heat. Add vegetable juice cocktail, pepper, seasoning salt, garlic and onion. Cover and let simmer 1 1/2 hours; add mushrooms and hot pepper sauce, if desired. Cover and simmer an additional 15 minutes until done. This can also be baked in a covered casserole in 325 degree oven for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. |
