DEVILS FOOD CAKE 
2 c. sugar
1 3/4 c. sifted all-purpose flour
3/4 c. cocoa
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. salt
1 2/3 c. milk
1/2 c. shortening
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla

Grease and dust with flour, two 9 inch layer pans or one 9x13x2 inch pan.

Cream shortening, add sugar and eggs. Combine cocoa, flour, baking soda and salt. Add to shortening mixture alternately with milk. Add vanilla and mix well. Pour into tins and bake at 350 degrees F. for 30 to 35 minutes for layers or 35 to 40 minutes for large pan or until done.
