DUMPH KRAUT 
1/2 head cabbage, shredded
1 lg. apple, peeled and sliced
1 med. onion, sliced quite fine
4 or 5 slices bacon, diced
2 c. boiling water
2 tbsp. cider vinegar
2 tbsp. sugar
Salt to taste
1 tsp. caraway seeds

Combine all ingredients and boil for 45 minutes to an hour. Brown 2 tablespoons flour in dry skillet; stir until it becomes a light brown. Use this flour combined with enough water to make a smooth paste and add to cabbage mixture. Boil a few minutes longer until mixture thickens. This is a very old European dish.
