AMMONIA COOKIES | |
1 pt. milk (2 c.) 3 c. white sugar 1 c. butter (I use butter) 3 eggs 3 tbsp. baking ammonia (purchase at drugstore) 1 lemon or 2 tsp. oil or lemon (also at drugstore) Use enough flour to make a stiff dough (8 to 10 c.) Dissolve ammonia in milk (I crush it first). Cream butter, sugar and eggs. Add flour alternately with the milk mixture. Add the lemon flavoring. Roll out on floured board (I find that the dough handles much better if it is chilled thoroughly.) Cut with butter dipped in flour. (I use a 2 1/2 to 3 inch cutter.) Oil cookie sheet first time and bake in quick 375 degree oven or until lightly browned (8 to 10 minutes). Makes about 60 cookies. 1 dram = 1 teaspoon lemon oil. |
