1 pkg. dark chocolate cake mix
1/2 c. butter, melted
1 egg, slightly beaten

FILLING:

2 c. powdered sugar
1/4 c. shortening
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 egg white

Heat oven to 350 degrees. In large bowl, combine ingredients for cookies; mix well. Firmly shape dough into 1 inch balls. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 9-13 minutes or until set. Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheets. COOL COMPLETELY.

In a small bowl, combine 1/2 cup of the powdered sugar, shortening, vanilla, and egg white; blend well. Add remaining powdered sugar; beat until smooth and creamy. Spread heaping teaspoon of filling between two cookies. Repeat. Makes 24 sandwich cookies.
