APPLE PECAN COFFEE CAKE 
CAKE:

1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. softened butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
3 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 3/4 c. buttermilk
2-3 apples, pared & thinly sliced

TOPPING:

1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
3 tbsp. butter
1/2 c. chopped pecans

Cream shortening and butter. Add sugar and eggs. Add dry ingredients, alternately with buttermilk. Spoon 1/2 the batter into a greased and floured 13"x9" pan. Arrange apple slices on top of this. Spread the remaining batter on top of apple slices. Top with topping that has been mixed together. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Serves 16 to 20.
