BISHOP'S BREAD 
2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. oil
1 egg
2 1/2 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
3/4 c. sour milk
1 c. chopped dates

Blend sugar and oil together. Then add egg and beat until smooth. Sift flour with dry ingredients. Add to creamed mix alternately with milk. Fold in dates. Pour into greased and floured 9-inch square pan. Bake at 375 degrees for 35-40 minutes.

When top springs back when pressed with finger, remove from oven and sprinkle with 1/2 cup sugar mixed with 1 tablespoon cinnamon. Serve hot. 12 servings.
