MOLASSES RYE BREAD | |
2 pkgs. yeast 1/2 c. lukewarm water 1 tsp. sugar 4 c. hot water 1/2 c. sugar 1 1/2 tsp. salt 1 c. molasses 1/3 c. Crisco oil 3 c. white flour 4 c. rye flour Approx. 5 c. white flour Dissolve yeast in warm water and 1 teaspoon sugar. Separately combine hot water, 1/2 cup sugar and molasses. When cool, add yeast and Crisco oil. Stir. Add 3 cups white flour. Beat hard, add rye flour, then remaining white flour until right consistency. Knead for 10 minutes. Place in greased bowl, cover and let rise 2 hours. Knead down. Form into four loaves. Cover, let rise 2 hours. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes in greased pans. |
