CARAMEL NUT SLICES 
1 c. soft shortening (part butter)
2 c. brown sugar, packed
2 eggs
3 1/2 c. sifted Gold Medal flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. finely chopped nuts

Mix well shortening, sugar and eggs. Sift together flour, salt and soda. Stir in. Add nuts. Shape in 2 rolls, 2 inches across. Chill. Heat oven to 400 degrees (moderately hot). Slice dough 1/8 inch thick. Cookies spread very little during baking so place fairly close together on cookie sheet. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet 8-10 minutes. Makes about 12 dozen cookies.
