APPLE CREAM CHEESE BARS | |
2 1/2 c. flour 1 1/4 c. + 3 tbsp. sugar 1 tsp. salt 1/3 c. butter 3 tbsp. oil 2 2/3 tbsp. cold water 2 eggs 6 c. apples, pared & sliced 2 tbsp. lemon juice 40 caramels 1 c. evaporated milk 1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese 1/2 c. nuts, chopped CRUST: Combine 2 cups flour, 3 tablespoons sugar and 1 teaspoon salt; cut in butter and oil. Blend in 1 egg and the cold water until pie crust consistency. Roll out and pat into 9"x13" pan. FILLING: Mix apples, 1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup flour and lemon juice thoroughly and place on crust. Combine caramels with milk; heat until melted. Pour over apples. TOPPING: Beat cream cheese, 1/4 cup sugar and 1 egg with electric beater until creamy. Pour over caramel topping. Sprinkle nuts on top; bake at 325 degrees for 55 minutes. |
