CALIFORNIA RAISIN SAUCE FOR HAM 
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup water
1/3 cup port wine or currant jelly
1/2 tsp. grated orange rind
1/3 cup orange juice
1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
1 tbsp. cornstarch
Dash allspice

Rinse raisins. Add water, wine, rind and orange juice. Bring to a boil.

Blend sugar with cornstarch, salt and allspice. Stir into orange mixture. Cook, stirring until clear.

Makes 1 1/3 cups.

Cooked it forever; never got totally clear. Cornstar became tiny hard balls sometimes. Was never runny. I've made this before from a Good Housekeeping Cookbook recipe, and I never had these problems!

You didn't get it hot enough -- you need to bring it to a boil per the recipe.
