BOILED SMOKED SHOULDER 
Place a 4 or 5 pound smoked shoulder in a large pot, cover with water. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 1 hour. Pour off water. Recover with fresh cold water and simmer 1 1/2 hours longer or until tender. Add whole potatoes, carrots and quartered cabbage. Continue cooking until done.

I have grown up on this meal and now make it for my family, difference being I boil my smoked shoulder and hour longer. I don't drain the water, just add the quartered cabbage, turnip, carrots and potatoes... yummy!!!!!
