CARAMEL BUTTERMILK ICING 
1/4 lb. butter
2 c. sugar
1/2 c. buttermilk
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. white syrup
Pinch of salt

Combine all ingredients. Cook slow over low heat, stirring constantly until mixture forms a soft ball when dropped in cold water. Remove from heat. Cool, beat until right consistency to spread.
