STEP 1:
1 c. chopped dates
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1 tsp. baking soda

Mix and let sit 1 hour until cold.

STEP 2:
1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
2 beaten eggs
1 3/4 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. baking soda

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs. Sift flour, salt, and soda. Add to cream mixture. Mix above mixture with date mixture, then spread in 9x13 inch greased and floured pan.

STEP 3 TOPPING:

1/2 c. chopped nuts
1 sm. pkg. chocolate chips
1/2 c. granulated sugar

Sprinkle over top and bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 45 minutes. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream. Serve right in pan.
