BUTTERMILK BISCUITS 
2 c. flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
5 tbsp. shortening
1 c. buttermilk or sour milk

Sift flour, salt and soda; cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add buttermilk all at once and stir until dough sticks together. Knead on board 1/2 minute and then cut into 1 1/4" thick biscuits. Bake at 450 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes.
