ICE CREAM SANDWICHES 
1 egg
1/2 c. Crisco
1/4 c. butter, softened
1 tsp. vanilla
1 pkg. Betty Crocker or any other brand devils food cake mix
1 half gallon ice cream, cut in slices (any thickness)

NOTE: These look like store bought ice cream sandwiches.

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Beat egg, shortening, butter, vanilla, and about half of the cake mix (dry) until smooth. Stir in remaining cake mix. Divide dough into 4 equal parts. Roll each part into a rectangle on lightly floured pastry cloth (a must - or won't work) with a covered stockinet rolling pin also lightly floured. Cut dough into 3 x 2 1/2 inch pieces. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake 6-8 minutes until edge looks set. As soon as they are taken out of oven prick twice with a fork. Cool. Put ice cream slice in between 2 pieces. Wrap in Saran Wrap and freeze.
