BLACK WALNUT CAKE 
1/2 c. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 c. flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. milk
1 c. ground walnuts
1 tsp. vanilla
4 egg whites
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar

Cream butter and sugar. Sift flour, baking powder and salt together; add to creamed mixture. Stir in milk, vanilla, and walnuts. Beat egg whites with cream of tartar; fold into above mixture.

Bake at 350°F in two 9-inch round cake pans.

Frost with Fluffy White Icing.

Hint: A rotary cheese grater is great for grinding nut meats.
