HEFTY HARDY SOUP 
1 1/2 lbs. smoked sausage, cut into 2" pieces
1 1/4 c. carrots, thinly sliced
3/4 c. celery, thinly sliced
1 (1 1/2 oz.) env. dry onion soup mix
2 tbsp. sugar
6 c. boiling water
1 (28 oz.) can tomatoes
1 (5 1/2 oz.) pkg. dehydrated hash browns with onions
1 (10 oz.) pkg. green beans
1/4 tsp. oregano
1/4 tsp. basil leaves
1/4 tsp. hot pepper sauce
1/8 tsp. garlic powder, more or less to taste
Salt to taste, if needed

In a large Dutch oven, combine sausage, carrots, celery, onion soup mix and sugar. Add boiling water and stir until it comes to a full boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer 10 minutes. Mix in tomatoes, breaking them up with a large spoon (or use crushed). Add hash browns, beans, spices and hot pepper sauce. Heat to boiling and then reduce heat and simmer until vegetables are tender, about 30 to 40 minutes. Stir once or twice. Serve with crusty French bread.
