MARGARET'S BAKLAVA 
15 sheets phyllo dough
2 c. blanched almonds, or walnuts
1 c. butter, melted
1/2 c. sugar
Cinnamon
Cloves, to taste

SYRUP:

1 c. honey
2 c. water
2 c. sugar
Lemon or orange rind
Cinnamon stick

Grind or chop nuts. Add 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon and cloves to taste. Brush baking tray with butter. Place phyllo leaves on bottom and brush again with butter. Sprinkle nut mixture evenly over leaves. Place 2 or 3 leaves on top, make sure you brush each layer of phyllo with melted butter. Proceed with layers until tray is full. Place last 3 leaves on top. Baste with melted butter and with a knife score top in squares or diamond shapes. Bake in moderate oven, then increase heat until top becomes golden brown. Bake 1 hour, then pour syrup over hot baklava.

Make syrup by combining all the ingredients in a saucepan and boil for 10 minutes. Allow to cool. Remove cinnamon stick. Yields 24 servings.
