SILVER'S CARAMELS 
1 cup (2 sticks) butter
1 (1 lb.) pkg. brown sugar (2 1/2 cups)
dash of salt
1 cup light corn syrup (Karo)
1 (14 oz.) can Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk
1 tsp. vanilla

In a heavy saucepan, mix all ingredients (except vanilla). (Stir at all times). Cook on medium heat to 245°F on the candy thermometer (firm ball). Stir in vanilla.

Pour into a 9x9-inch greased pan, and cool completely.

Pop out and cut into squares with pizza cutter or very sharp knife. Wrap in waxed paper or candy cellophane.
