FRESH APPLE CAKE 
1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 c. flour
2 1/3 c. finely chopped apples
1/2 c. chopped walnuts
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. salt

Cream shortening, sugar and eggs. Sift flour and dry ingredients together, add to creamed mixture. Fold in apples and nuts, spread in 9x9 inch pan. Sprinkle some nuts on top and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until toothpick comes out clean. Serve warm or cold. Serve with Cool Whip or ice cream. 24 servings.
