JAM CAKE 
5 eggs, beaten
2 c. white sugar
3 c. flour
1 c. butter/shortening
1 c. buttermilk
1 c. nut meats
1 c. jam
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. allspice
1 c. chopped dates or raisins
1 tsp. baking soda

Cream butter and gradually add sugar. Cream together until light and fluffy. Add eggs, well beaten. Sift flour before measuring. Add spices, salt and flour and sift again. Dissolve soda in buttermilk and add alternately with flour mixture to the egg, butter and sugar mixture and beat after each addition. Lightly dredge raisins and nuts with extra flour and next add jam. Mix well. Grease and paper line two 9 inch pans. Bake at 325 degrees for 40 minutes.

BROWN SUGAR ICING:

1 c. brown sugar
1/2 stick butter
1/2 c. milk
