SWEET PICKLES 
7 lbs. cucumbers, sliced 1/4 inch slices
2 gal. water
2 c. pickling lime (shake or lg. grated)
Plastic bucket or lg. crock jar

Mix lime and water - put in cucumbers. Let stand 24 hours, stirring a couple of times during this period. Take out and rinse about 3 times. Let stand in clear water 3 hours. Then put in following solution:

8 c. vinegar
9 c. sugar
1 tbsp. salt
1 tsp. whole cloves
1 tsp. celery seed
1 tsp. pickling spices
Few drops green food color (optional)

Take cucumbers out of clear water and put in solution. Let stand overnight or at least 8 hours. Put on a burner and heat to boiling - cook until cucumbers start to look transparent - about 30 minutes. Put in hot sterilized jars and seal. These are ready to eat when you can them.
