AMISH VANILLA PIE 
1 c. sugar
4 tbsp. flour
1 egg, beaten
2 c. water
1 c. light molasses
1 tsp. vanilla

CRUMBS:

1 c. brown sugar
2 c. flour
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 c. butter
1/4 c. lard

Combine liquid ingredients in saucepan and bring to a boil. Set aside to cool.

Make crumbs by combining flour, brown sugar, cream of tartar, soda and shortening. Pour half of liquid into each pie shell and top with crumbs. Bake for 40-45 minutes at 350 degrees. Makes 2 (9 inch) pies.
