BUTTERMILK GLAZE 
1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. buttermilk
1/2 c. butter
1 tbsp. light corn syrup
1 tsp. vanilla

Combine sugar, baking soda, buttermilk, butter and corn syrup in heavy saucepan. Bring to a boil; cook 4 minutes, stirring often. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Spread glaze over layers immediately after removing them from oven. Cool, remove from pans and frost with cream cheese frosting on top of glaze.
