LADY BALTIMORE CAKE 
3 c. flour
2 tsp. (heaping) baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
3 egg whites, beaten stiff

Grease and flour baking pans. Sift flour once, then add baking powder and baking soda and salt, then sift 3 more times. Cream shortening in separate bowl until light and fluffy, then add sugar gradually and cream together thoroughly. Add sifted dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with milk, a small amount at a time. Beat after each addition until smooth. Add vanilla and fold in egg whites. Bake at 350 degrees until done.
