SWEET ONION-SMOTHERED HAMBURGERS
2 cups thinly sliced onion, separated into rings
1/2 c chili sauce, divided
2 tbsp grape jelly
1 lb. ground round
1/4 c dry breadcrumbs
1 tbsp instant minced onion
1/4 tsp pepper
1 garlic clove, minced
4 (1 1/2 oz) hamburger buns, split
4 curly leaf lettuce leaves

Coat a large nonstick skillet with cooking spray, and place over medium heat until hot. Add onion rings; cover and cook 10 minutes or until limp and golden, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to low, and stir in 1/4 c chili sauce and grape jelly. Cover and cook 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Combine remaining 1/4 c chili sauce, beef, breadcrumbs, instant minced onion, pepper, and garlic in a large bowl; stir well. Divide beef mixture into 4 equal portions, shaping each into a 1/2-inch patty. Prepare grill or broiler. Place patties on grill rack or broiler pan coated with cooking spray, and cook 4 minutes on each side or until done.

Line bottom halves of buns with lettuce leaf, top each with a patty, 1/4 c onion mixture, and top half of bun. 4 servings, 9.5 points each.
