COCOA BROWNIES 
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. cocoa
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
Boiling water
1 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt

Blend shortening and sugar, beat in egg and vanilla.Put cocoa in cup or small bowl, add enough boiling water to mix with cocoa into a smooth batter. Add to mix, stir well. Sift flour, baking powder and salt together, stir into wet mix. Spread dough into 8 inch square pan, bake 350-400 degrees until fork stuck in comes out clean. While hot, cut into squares.
