SHORTBREAD 
1 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 c. light brown sugar
1/2 c. soft butter
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Sift flour and sugar together and blend butter into mixture. Add vanilla and blend the mixture together. Form into small balls and place onto cookie sheet a few inches apart. With the back of a fork, press the balls down making criss-cross pattern.

Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F for 10 to 15 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.
