DATE SWIRL COOKIES 
1 c. shortening
2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1/2 tsp. grated orange peel
1/4 tsp. grated lemon peel
3 1/3 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. milk

Divide dough in half. Roll each half into rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Spread thin layer of date filling over the dough. Roll like jelly roll - chill and cut into 1/4 inch slices. Bake 10-12 minutes at 375 degrees.
