PUMPKIN BARS 
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar, packed
1 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ginger
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
2/3 c. pumpkin
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. nuts (opt.)

Grease 9"x13" pan. Combine all ingredients except nuts in mixing bowl. Beat for 2 minutes at medium speed. Fold in nuts (optional). Spread evenly in pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes. Frost when cool.

CREAM CHEESE FROSTING:

1 (3 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
1/2 stick butter
2 c. powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix well, spread on cooled bars.
