PUMPKIN COOKIES 
1 c. shortening
1 c. pumpkin
1 egg
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1/2 c. dates or raisins
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. sugar

Cream sugar and shortening, add egg and vanilla and pumpkin. Sift in dry ingredients, stir in dates and nuts. Drop by spoon on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes.

FROSTING:

1 c. brown sugar
3 tbsp. soft butter
4 tbsp. milk
1 c. confectioners' sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Combine sugar, butter and milk, beat for 2 minutes. Cool and add confectioners' sugar and vanilla. Beat until smooth. Frost cookies when cool.
